Fit bigger tires and improve handling with the Maverick R Tall Knuckle. With over a year in the making, with testing, and tuning we're ready. This improves vehicle handling and has zero performance drawbacks, no performance restrictions, everything only gets better. The Maverick R tall knuckle allows fitment of 37" tire with an inch and a half of room to spare. This is to account for tire growth at speed up to 115mph. A 39" tire will fit but will be confined to slower speeds. This isn't a kit that was just designed to fit a bigger tire, this is a kit designed to perform consistently at the highest levels.Â
There have been several geometry changes, and all for the better. We have added Ackermann into the steering geometry. This means that the inside tire and outside tire now turn in 2 different arc's instead of identical arc's like the factory. This eliminates steering scrub which is particularly noticeable at slow speeds, so no more front end pushing.
Next is instant center and roll center. Think of this as the body roll pivot point. The changes, mainly in the knuckle, are what provides this change. The car body rolls with a lower pivot point than factory and this has reduced body roll while increasing front end traction and compliance, it feels extremely planted.
Unlike the stock suspension we now have camber change through the travel. This helps with stability at speed whether its a full compression, full droop and everywhere in between. This also helps with hard cornering.
This kit includes tall knuckles, upper a arms and outer tie rod ends, all which are specific to the tall knuckle setup. Our Pro Desert or Pro Rock a arms using our patented double shear system MUST be used.
Tech:
- American Made 7075 construction, starts as a 325 lb block of material and gets milled down to a 24 lb part.
- Steering attachment point is bolted on but utilizes a keyway and boss in different planes, so there is mechanical attachment without relying on hardware to solely hold it on. Also no bolts thread directly into the aluminum knuckle so no soft aluminum threads to fail and pull out. All hardware is ARP and 1 bolt location shares a unit bearing bolt. The purpose of this piece was to allow us to have multiple steering configurations. Since Ackermann is wheelbase specific this allows people to switch from a 4 seat to 2 seat, or the other way around, and not have the expense of buying new knuckles, just the tie rod mount.
- An FK uniball (WSSX14T 7/8") takes the place of the factory balljoint. A debris cap is installed with a circlip to keep debris from the tires from getting thrown up in the bottom of the uniball and causing premature wear and contacting the spindle pin bolt. The heat treated 17-4 spindle pin is an 1/8" larger than the factory balljoint.
- Upper a arm construction is made from 4130 chromoly and is tig welded. These arms fit with factory plastics. Smart shock mounting points are in the factory location so the system does not need to relearn. Upper arms accept all 3.0 front shocks.
- Outer tie rod ends are included as well which are made from 4140 chromoly that is zinc plated and use a 3/4" FK uniball with stainless steel misalignment spacers.
The upper a arms and outer tie rod ends are covered under our lifetime warranty. The knuckles are covered under our racers limited lifetime warranty.
